I loved this on the Vita so I feel I should clear something up.

There is no AI or machine learning based voice acting in Freedom Wars.

The mascot character and your Accessory use Text-to-Speech, Bonzi Buddy for example uses this.

This is also why at the start when you fill in your name, the game has you hear how it'll sound.

You will see many reviews claim they added AI voice acting, but it's just TTS so don't panic.

Preliminary review - but no crashes or technical issues when playing on Steam Deck.

The game looks exactly as I remember, but in reality there are quite a lot of improvements in fidelity and gameplay. Higher resolution, improved assets and twice the frame rate.

The game holds 60 on Steam Deck with the TDP reduced to 10, and all graphical settings maxed.

I recommend this to anyone who loves Monster Hunting games and wants a fresh take on it. This is one of those instances where fans should show up and vote with their wallet, the prospect of Freedom Wars 2 is too good.

the port is ok but there are several issues you need to know about before playing:

1. easy anti-cheat

2. mouse controls are abysmal, they're not real raw input for some reason, but right stick analog emulation. i played like this on the vita3k emulator with a controller emulator (reWASD), i was hoping to not have to experience this again

3. english voice acting for humans is ok but the robot voices constantly mispronounce words. you probably want to switch to japanese like the original game (which, btw, you CAN switch to, it's just that you have to play the introduction part of the game first and then switch it in the Window on Liberty menu, for some reason. this got a lot of people confused and thinking that they're locked to english voice acting. it should've been an option from the start.)

for people with 60hz+ monitors:
4. 60 fps is nice and much better than the original 30fps framerate cap on the vita (and on switch lmaooo) but there is no higher framerate available. for now use loseless scaling or something if you really want 120fps (frame gen)

for people with ultrawide monitors:
5. no ultrawide monitor support. just 16:9, black bars.

otherwise, it's exactly the same game, mostly. there are improvements to sound design, asset quality and gameplay systems have been changed to be less grindy.

i think a few patches and this might be a great port. for now, it's a passable one.
