Review time!!!
Overall, it's a pretty nice game. A few things stand out as needing attention.
The MC's head doesn't articulate. Early on in the game when there isn't too much to look at other than the mouse, it's strange to see a character not looking around or simply bobbing as he walks. A bit too much like taxidermy.
Next thing is music. The first music track (Arthur's story) is very twee. That's not a bad thing per se, but it's at odds with the difficulty of the puzzles. Having once been a child, I can remember the urgency to grow up and distance myself from children's edu-tainment. The puzzle mechanics here fall squarely on the older side, whilst the music and to some extent most of the visuals fall on the childrens side.
Since working out the puzzles are the main roadblock in the game, I'd suggest children being entertained by a colourful character running around in a colourful world, would be better served with simpler puzzle mechanics.
For instance, not needing to grab an object to push it, and removing any object pulling scenarios, would simplify the controls some. One possible alternative would be a few positions that objects move between when the character makes contact.
The light statues were fiddly to operate since rotation and push/pulling were so close together on my joystick. I had to repeatedly finagle statues into corners or approach them from the side in order to just rotate them without pushing them again.
The actual puzzles were very good, especially in the second chapter. Light signal puzzles appear rarely it seems, and fewer still require splitting or colour filtering. The difficulty curve was just right, moving from basic concepts to bringing it all together in the latter rooms.
The first chapter puzzles were decent too, with a nice variety of options available with the 3 states per item afforded by the magnets.
On a personal note, 4th wall breaking dialogue from NPCs doesn't fit. The game doesn't break the 4th wall, but it gets very close in parts. There are a couple of incidental bits of chatter that break immersion, and considering how closely the rest of the game stays congruent, I'm no scholar on such things but I imagine the problem occurs when being asked to write a variety of characters without being asked to write them all as sincere. I can only remember two examples. One was a girl hiding behind a tree who challenged me to look for her sister who was also hiding. The other comment was about boxes
blocking the street, made by a farm boy who was complaining about his commute. On the farm boy, y'know, I had noticed the blockages, but until he brought it up I assumed no-one in town had any trouble getting about and it was only us that were hindered by them. The NPCs regularly teleport to other locations, so they clearly have no issue with getting past the barricades when they want to; which means the farm boy's comment can only be an attempt at self-aware humour of the "Well, that just happened" variety. It perfectly normal to have abstractions like a section of town that is revealed to be a progress block the player needs to overcome to move on. It's unnecessary to have a character point at the blockage and give a wink whilst saying "blocked roads, am i right?"
