The Story So Far:

We've already talked a little bit about TSG’s latest loco Add-on following the release of Mittenwaldbahn[live.dovetailgames.com] earlier in the year.

This includes:

Please note that this add-on will be released on Gen 9 (Xbox Series S|X & PS5) and PC platforms only.

Rolling Stock

DRG BR 194 locomotive

This style of locomotive – the iconic ‘Krokodil’ - was first introduced to Train Sim World with the Mittenwaldbahn Add-on in the form of the ÖBB 1020. The distinctive shape dates back to over a century ago, with this type of locomotive arriving slightly later in the 1940s and 50s.

The DRG BR 194 is an older variant than the ÖBB 1020, as TSG explained in the April Roadmap:

“When the ÖBB took on the E94s to form the ÖBB 1020s, over time they made a significant number of modernisations and improvements to the locos to keep them relevant and suit local requirements. In backdating the 1020 into the BR 194 these modifications have had to be removed leaving a somewhat cruder locomotive.”

Differences can be seen both inside and out, with the DRG variant seen in a plain dark green livery, rather than the ÖBB red. The roof and windows, but also components like cooling pipes, vents, and lights, also have visual differences.

In the cab, the technology is visibly dated with less electrical components and switches, a shorter instrument display and even an older style of telephone!

A more comprehensive list of changes includes:

Air System Modifications including a weaker compressor, differing air tank capacity and locations within the system and non-centralised brake frame (Goods passenger valves and Triple Valves are located on the bogies instead of in the machine room for example)
Train Brake Valves are now Knorr Nr.10 manually lapped brake valves instead of the Oerlikon FV4 Self lapping Valves.
Indusi i54 instead of i60 (functionally the same, but no ability to change modes).
Different Pantographs and their control system. As modelled, we only have a single contract strip on each pantograph so both pantographs have to be raised typically. The Control of the MCB and pantos is done via a single valve in each cab, with an air valve in the Number 1 cab to select which pantograph is to be used. There is always a hand pump to be used to raise the pantograph in the event of there being no main reservoir pressure to raise it, to then allow the main compressor to run.
Different Lamp Systems, instead of built into the vehicle's body, are semi-permanent lamps with red filter levers on the side to change the aspect.
Various cosmetic changes including changes to the vents, removal of the snowploughs, roofline changes, cab windows, underframes, bonnets and more.
Changes to the Overload system requiring the driver to go into the machine room to reset in the event of an overload being tripped
Weaker Electric Brake comparative to how the 1020 was before the last update if not marginally weaker.

E94 Railtour locomotive

Also included is a more modern rail tour variant of the E94 in the form of the individual number 088, which runs rail tours to this day. Developing the Add-on was done with invaluable support of the Elektrische Zugförderung Württemberg, who will also receive a portion of the proceeds from this pack.

Originally built in 1943, this specific locomotive received major modifications in 1970 to become an ÖBB 1020 and continued service until 1994. After an extensive restoration, it was brought back to operational condition in 2013 and is now proudly maintained by EZW. Today, it still runs on both rail tours and regular services whenever an additional locomotive is needed.

TSG also stated in the May Roadmap[live.dovetailgames.com]:

“From the very beginning, their passionate team has provided us with original drawings and answered every technical question we had. Groups like EZW are the reason these 82-year-old locomotives are still alive and running today. Without their help, we wouldn’t have been able to capture the authentic sounds or gather the detailed information necessary to recreate these locomotives so faithfully.”

Byg 516 Umbauwagen Coaches

Including in the pack are ageing pre-war passenger coaches: “Umbauwagen”.

After the Second World War, German railways had a lack of coaching stock and therefore opted to rebuild old, pre-war coaches. "Umbauwagen" translates to "rebuild coach".

Over 6,500 of these coaches were in service at one point. They were withdrawn in the 2000s.

Gbs, Es50 and Falns freight wagons

For period freight services, a selection of new and reliveried freight wagons are included in the pack. The Gbs wagon is new to Train Sim World, whereas the Es50 and Falns have been seen before. The Falns comes in a new DBB livery.

The Gbs freight wagon is an iconic box car, which these days has been generally replaced by Habbins type wagons. It is found largely on heritage railways, used for storage, and was a staple wagon from the 1950s to 2000s.

Timetable services and additional gameplay

New 1984 Linke Rheinstrecke Timetable

Players with the Linke Rheinstrecke route Add-on will be able to make use of a new 1984 timetable that is unlocked with the BR 194 loco Add-on.

This timetable is best experienced with a full complement of period locomotives and stock which are layered in from other Train Sim World Add-ons.

DB BR 218 loco Add-on[live.dovetailgames.com]

This content will be available in the form of a Bundle, available on Steam. We’ll provide more details of this bundle around release of the E94 loco Add-on.

The 1984 timetable will have a small number of additional playable services over the original timetable, set in 1997. However, there will be a significant increase in AI traffic with hundreds of additional AI services visible at both ends of the route.

Unique special services will be included, as well as local freight and repositioning movements. Long distance traffic will feature courtesy of content from the Mittenwaldbahn route Add-on. This increase in services means that some trains will have to wait for others!

There have also been a number of general improvements made to the Linke Rheinstrecke route, mainly focussed on scenery and water textures.

In the run up to release, the DB BR 218 will receive a new livery that can be used in this timetable or via Free Roam. We’ll share more news on this in the relevant Patch Notes.

Railtour services on Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn

Unlock the Mastery Scenery Tile in Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn and use Free Roam to host the E94 in this engine shed, as depict here.

For a more contemporary experience, the E94 088 can be operated as rail tour services in two Scenarios for the Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn[live.dovetailgames.com] route.

Timetabled rail tour services are planned to be added to the route in the future.

Scenarios and Free Roam

Two Scenarios will be playable on both Linke Rheinstrecke and Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn.

Players can also make use of Free Roam and Scenario Planner to run custom rail tour services across any route in their collection. In real life, the locomotive has been seen hauling more contemporary stock such as Dostos and has been throughout Germany during its time in preservation.

How should I enable AFB on the Flixtron

So the question is in the title. The AFB speed selector is there, but pressing 9 on the left display doesn't bring up the screen as in the other German locomotives. In fact I tried all of the buttons and they don't do anything. Seems like the feature is missing...

The Train Sim World Roadmap

Welcome back to the Roadmap for Train Sim World 5, where we share insights into our progress on new content, updates and future announcements for developments from our teams and our range of third-party partner developers.

If you’re joining us for the first time, this is a monthly check-in that will continue the conversation between our teams and all of our community, sharing brand new announcements, updates and sneak peeks on our content in-development, as well as new ways for you to get involved with mastery rewards and upcoming events.

In this months update, we've got 3 brand-new Add-on announcements! From our teams, we're announcing a new Boston Providence HSP-46 Gameplay Pack, and from our third party partners, you can discover the DB BR 101 Expert Kassel Würzburg Gameplay Pack from TSG, as well as the latest volume of the Cargo Line series, Cargo Line Volume. 5 – Nuclear, coming from Skyhook Games! We'll also have new information from Alan Thomson Simulation on the Manchester Airport Commuter route, and a summary for other add-ons that we're expecting very soon, from TSG, Just Trains and High Iron Simulations.

Content Up Ahead

Announcing: MBTA Providence/Stoughton Line HSP46 Add-On

A new gameplay pack is coming, that brings the iconic purple HSP-46 from MBTA Commuter, over to the NEC: Boston - Providence, with a new set of gameplay scenarios and Conductor Mode to the route!

These three new scenarios will challenge you in different ways, from building up formations from a cold start, yard work at Readville sidings, to train rescue operations during snowfall!

A tutorial for the HSP-46 will also be added to the Training Center, which will feature a guide for setting up the train's controls, loading and unloading passengers and completing a full loop of the circuit.

We'll share more details for the gameplay pack in the coming weeks.

Announcing: Cargo Line Volume. 5 – Nuclear from Skyhook Games

Skyhook Games is proud to officially announce that the ever popular Cargo Line wagon series for Train Sim World is going nuclear for Volume 5! Introducing the FNA-D Flask Carrier wagons and their perfect partner the Type 1 Class 20/3 diesel locomotive.

Skyhook: “Created as a wholly-owned subsidiary of British Nuclear Fuels Ltd during late 1994, Direct Rail Services (DRS) had the sole purpose of taking over rail-based handling of nuclear material from British Rail. Initially operating from the reprocessing plant at Sellafield, DRS opened a dedicated depot at Carlisle Kingmoor Yard in 1998 to cater for its new fleet of 15 ex Channel Tunnel works Class 20 locomotives."

"DRS eventually operated a fleet of 21 examples of the English Electric Type 1s, being significantly upgraded by Brush Traction of Loughborough with long-range fuel tanks, group standard headlight clusters, high-impact windscreens and a complete cab rebuild before outshopping them in iconic Oxford Blue livery with fully yellow ends and red buffer beams.”

“The original fleet of FNA wagons were built by British Rail, and later Procor, for the transport of spent nuclear fuel from power stations to processing and research centres. These fascinating wagons came into service in the 1970s and became an iconic part of the network, performing this important task. In the 2010s, it was identified that replacements were required. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority commissioned WH Davis to produce 40 new wagons as a 'like-for-like' replacement for the original FNAs.”

“The new batch featured several major updates including exposed framing, different bogies, and the ability to carry a wider range of flask designs. Despite the reduction in nuclear power plants in the UK since the millennium, the FNA-Ds can still be seen in use across much of the UK.”

In this Add-on, the Class 20/3 appears in unbranded Oxford blue livery to represent these locomotives.

Manchester Airport Commuter from Alan Thomson Simulation

This month, the Alan Thomson Simulation team are excited to share new screenshots and details for their Manchester Airport Commuter route!

ATS: “Hi everyone! A quick update from us—we’re thrilled with the progress we’ve made over the past few months. We've been hard at work bug-fixing and refining the route, incorporating valuable feedback from DTG during QA. Thanks to this, we’re now back in the 0–3 month section of the roadmap, which is fantastic news!”

“We can’t wait for you to finally experience the route firsthand. With over 900 playable services across two timetables, you'll have plenty to explore, including the 323, 66 Freight & RHTT, 390, 350, East Midlands 158, ScotRail 158, and TfW 150 & 153.”

Announcing: Expert DB BR 101 on Kassel - Würzburg Gameplay Pack from TSG

Return to the Expert DB BR 101, on Kassel - Würzburg, with a new expanded timetable, 5 exciting Expert-Level scenarios, and much more! Let's hear form the TSG team to understand what they've been working on.

TSG: "We return to Kassel – Würzburg with a new Timetable set two years before the Original one, coming in with 26 more playable services and over 1200 new AI services to bring live into the cities. Of course, it focuses heavily on IC traffic with the 101 Expert but brings you new opportunities for the ICE3 and 1 too."

The expanded timetable will change/add the following:

Reworked freight layers
ICE trains and formations have been swapped around to better represent the 2018 timetable, including the addition of an ICE-T layer
IC layer is completely different with many more 101 and cab car-led services, including a few light loco runs where LZB use is prohibited
New FlixTrain layer with 2x BR 193 services
Overhauled and added AI wherever the high-speed line passes by or interacts with other lines

TSG: "Five new expert level scenarios await to be played, which introduce new gameplay, such as written orders and lots of changed scenery. We cant wait for you to experience this fun gameplay pack!"

Expert-level scenarios will feature all new types of gameplay, including:

A rescue scenario with the ultimate stopping precision required
Wrong-line running around track closures
Voice-over lines
Befehl documents on the cab desk

We'll be sharing much more details about what you can expect in these new scenarios in future articles, but for now stay excited and prepare yourself to expect the unexpected!

Class 86 + Mk2f Coaches from Just Trains

Another release to keep an eye on coming soon is the BR Class 86/2 loco, included with Mk2F & Mk1 RMB coaches, from the Just Trains team.

Included are several external variations of the 86/2 which feature changes such two different types of Pantographs, RCH cables, a centrally mounted High Intensity head light and a single Rally light uniquely fitted to 86225. The eagle-eyed amongst you will remember this light from the first ever teaser image for the 86/2.

The feature coach of the Class 86/2 is the much-requested BR Mk1 RMB Buffet Car.

Also included in the pack are Mk2F Coaches, in BSO, TSO and FO variants. The air-conditioned Mk2s were the mainstay of many long-distance passenger trains after their introduction in the 1970s, and have seen use ever since, in both service, engineering and railtour duties.

Both the Class 86 and Mk2 Coaches brings additional challenges to the stunning WCML: Preston - Carlisle route and will substitute in place of some Class 87-hauled services. As well as this, included with the Class 86 add-on will be 5 brand-new Scenarios available to play on the Preston – Carlisle route, ranging from a football Special out of the map to Wembley to represent England playing against Scotland during April 1986.

Train Sim World 5: Class 86/2 & Mk2F Coaches is releasing soon for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £19.99 / €24.99 / $24.99

Santa Fe Gameplay Pack for Cajon Pass from High Iron Simulations

As a reminder, the High Iron Simulation team are continuing to progress with the Santa Fe GamePlay Pack for the TSW5 Cajon Pass route, and this is now in beta testing with final refinements underway.

The upcoming pack includes the Santa Fe Warbonnet General Electric C40-8W and blue-and-yellow Electro-Motive SD40-2, three all-new freight cars, reskins of a number of existing Cajon route freight cars, a timetable with more than 250 train movements and including a Union Pacific layer, five scenarios, and a new tutorial for the GE C40-8W.

Patches & Updates

Recent Train Sim World 5 Patches

May 12th[forums.dovetailgames.com] – A large update with major improvements for Midland Main Line, including visual fixes and improvements, and additionally five new livery variants for the Class 87 on WCML Person – Carlisle. The ICMm Koploper from Zwolle – Groningen and the Class 150 from Cardiff Commuter also received new audio improvements.
June 2nd[forums.dovetailgames.com] – A substantial patch, featuring a bunch of improvements across the board over multiple add-ons, and many core quality of life improvements with memory improvements during scenarios for additional stability when playing.

Upcoming Updates

Our next update coming to Train Sim World 5 will feature further improvements across a range of content, which we will confirm once we have a final list, as well as additional improvements to community-raised issues, and also the updated Köln-Aachen timetable will be coming to players on PS5 and Epic Games platforms.

Dovetail Games is attending The Greatest Gathering!

The event takes place between Friday 1 and Sunday 3 August as part of this year’s Railway 200 celebrations.

We're excited to announce our attendance at The Greatest Gathering[www.alstom.com], the largest temporary gathering of trains and rail-related exhibits in a generation!

This three-day, sold-out festival at train manufacturer Alstom’s Derby Litchurch Lane Works, will feature more than 50 iconic vehicles from the past, present and future of the railways and marks the first time in almost 50 years that the rolling stock factory has been open to the general public.

Dovetail Games will be appearing in the event’s STEM Hub with two booths hosting Train Sim World for members of the public to enjoy. This space is designed to be both immersive and interactive, with a focus on inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders by showcasing the breadth of disciplines that power the railway industry.

Two consoles will be available to play at the stand and keen visitors will also be able to play using a converted professional train driver training simulator with a Class 700 style control desk and real train controls. Additional independent simulators will be at the event utilising Dovetail Games software.

Cargo Line Volume 4: Military

In Volume 4, take charge of more secretive movements across the UK rail network; the transportation of military vehicles secured aboard KWA Warwell wagons.

The Rolling Stock

KWA Warwell Wagons

The KWA Warwell wagon was introduced to the UK amidst the Second World War. These wagons feature a low profile for being laden with large equipment while keeping within Britain’s restrictive loading gauge.

The days of mass-importing Sherman tanks from across the pond have long since passed, but the railways still provide a vital role in modern national security. Rail-served Ministry of Defence sites are still dotted about the country to this day, and many pieces of equipment are still transported between them.

This brand-new wagon to Train Sim World is in a heavily weathered military green livery. The wagon consists of a main deck featuring a lower central portion and mounted on two wheeled bogies. Conventional draw gear and buffers are located at each end.

The wagon is available in three conditions:

Unloaded/empty
Loaded with a generic tracked armed personnel carrier (APC)
Loaded with a 3-axle Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle (MRAP).

The loads included are interpretations of real-world vehicles that do not feature guns or munitions. Skyhook Games made a statement concerning this on the Dovetail Games Forums.[forums.dovetailgames.com]

The pack also comes with the DB Cargo variant of the Class 66, previously seen in other Train Sim World Add-ons.

Timetable, Scenarios and Gameplay

Gameplay takes place across two routes:

Great Western Express
West Coast Main Line: Preston-Carlisle
These are available as separate route Add-ons.

Great Western Express

Gameplay on GWE represents military movements between bases in the Westcountry, Oxfordshire and Essex making use of the various yards on the route such as Southall and Acton.

There are 3 Scenarios for Great Western Express and 6 timetabled services to operate between London and Reading.

West Coast Main Line: Preston - Carlisle

On Just Trains’ West Coast Main Line: Preston – Carlisle route[trainsimworld.com], gameplay represents movements that would have taken place in the late 1980s moving equipment to the coast or through the country to other military bases located off the map in Scotland or the Midlands.

These trains are hauled by the Class 47 included in the route Add-on, rather than the Class 66.

There are 3 Scenarios for WCML Preston-Carlisle and 8 timetabled services to operate between Preston and Carlisle.

Journey Mode is also supported in ‘Armoured Personnel Carrier’

There will also undoubtedly be other routes to explore use of military freight on in Free Roam... heritage railways often host themed events, with the West Somerset Railway[trainsimworld.com] occasionally chartering military freight trains for special events in September.

Any way to remove the loading screen adverts (and from in-game)?

As per the title, couldn't find anything online for this. I toggle off the option for in-game adverts and to be shown promotions and marketing. It's had zero effect.

Bulk loaders do not trigger or activate?

Has anyone found any solutions to this? Sometimes, in scenarios, bulk loading doesn't work at all. Most often this happens when I'm loading coal. Today it happened on the Horseshoe route. The instructions were: Stop at the coal loader. I stopped at the very marked spot. Tried again several times. Either the loader or the scenario didn't respond, so I couldn't end the scenario. ???...

I don't think it is worth it. Although I play it a lot, it has a lot of issues, and there are almost no explanations of why certain things are happening, or how to handle different safety systems. Also performance issues, I have a Radeon rx 6950xt and I still get frame drops on medium settings
