Does this developer even have the rights to use intelectual property of the original author?

I just entered the area under the castle and found the glowing mushroom and put into the lantern. Then I enter the room on the left to connect the three lights. I did that and the room is lit, but everything is still not working in the room and I always get the message that there is to dark in the room. I have turned on the lights. I for example can't pick up the jack hammer or check anything in this room. Just like it was before I turned the lights on. I am using Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit....
