I turned Hervor into a swan before getting the answer to the riddle. Is there another way to get this answer?

I've encountered a glitch: Volund doesn't look at the crates when I follow him around. It follows the same pattern as always, he walks that way, I follow him, and he goes up to the crates, but instead of standing looking at them, and the dialog box popping up to say that he is checking on them and hasn't seen me, instead he stands near the crates, facing forward, and he doesn't get alarmed seeing me, he just talks normally if I try, and the dialog box won't pop up. As a rogue, every time I get into the wizard's tower room without him being there, and I try to picklock his chest, it eats me. What can I do?

I can't enable vsync and the game is locked at 50 fps. The newer version of AGS has many QoL features that would be welcome.

At the beginning of the game, inside the tavern, before doing anything, I try to create a save. As I type the numbers 0001 to name the save, the game crashes immediately and an error window appears ListBoxGetItemText: invalid item specified.. Does anyone have the same problem as me?...
