So, after spending a decent chunk of time meeting people, giving it the best chance I can, and actively trying to enjoy it, I can conclude that, in its current state, Resonite is not ready for VR at all and completely irrelevant for desktop use. I went to Resonite hoping to escape the absolute state that is VRchat, yet every regular I have spoken to still goes to VRchat. They all talk trash about it, which is warranted, but they also talk trash about Resonite. The people playing Resonite, which has a couple-few dozen players active at any given moment are saying VRchat, an app with tens of THOUSANDS of players active at any given moment is DEAD.

The bottom line is that Resonite is CPU-bound to the extent that even industrial grade processors aren't enough. Resonite uses ONE CORE, yes!! ONE! I don't care what specs your PC has, I bet there are games from before 2010 that'll run like crap on modern systems if you restrict them to ONE CORE. And Resonite has apparently promised to optimize their app since 2023 without making a lick of progress towards that promise. The lead dev, so I've been told by players within Resonite, just wants to keep on doing the fun stuff and adding more features, leaving all the optimization for later, which isn't how game development works!! You can't just make garbage spaghetti code and expect to optimize it later without rewriting the entire damn program.
I have never seen a player get higher than 40 FPS on even the most bare-bones, well-optimized maps. It doesn't matter if you have a PC from 2015 or 2025, you're gonna have a mightily uncomfortable time in VR. So, that means that desktop is the only way you can reasonably experience this program, but the issue with that is there are so many desktop MMOs and virtual chat rooms that are far superior. VR is never gonna get to the level of desktop because it simply takes too many resources to develop. You're not getting any of those VR benefits in desktop mode.
Oh yeah, also, whenever someone joins a server, everyone on that server suddenly gets a multi-second lag-spike. Every. Single. Time. This app is so bad, people grief on ACCIDENT. There are NO options to hide avatars that are close to you. It makes me feel bad when I accidentally tap my control stick and suddenly clip into some poor bastard's face who is probably used to it by now.

This game has a teenie tiny community, horrid UI, a non-ideal visual programming language, frequent server crashes (which also result in client hardlocks because Resonite is busted), and all that is without talking about the optimization. This game probably has YEARS before it'll be ready for anyone to have as a VR app they go on to socialize or play. The only people in resonite are the people creating stuff with it. Resonite is a creative tool, not a social app; not a game or an mmo, it is a visual programming language that you hope will one day suddenly stop being broken so that a wave of new players start coming to it, which I'm SURE will happen aaany second now...
I could see this having great potential in the future. However, VRchat when it first released didn't have "great potential", it was already great. That was literally 8 years ago. Resonite needed the headstart that VRchat did in order for it to be even TOLERABLE today. Meanwhile, VRchat was fine when it first released but turned into an unoptimized, overmonotized cancer-fest as time went on. Still, VRchat is at least CAPABLE of getting more than 40 FPS, which by the way, in Resonite I ON AVERAGE see everybody getting around 20 FPS!! 40 FPS is the best-case scenario!!!! That's the true bottom line.

I want this game to succeed and be good and popular and all that jazz as much as anyone else, but right now, its simply not even worth a shot. I hate VRchat and want it to crash and burn to the ground as much as anybody else, but a monopoly is a monopoly. This is a pick-your-poison situation.

Resonite: the app with few players and few updates, featuring all-new 0 FPS technology on even the beefiest of systems
ChilloutVR: the app with no players and no updates
Gmod: the desktop game that technically has VR capability
S&Box: the game that doesn't exist
VRchat: the app with tons of children and tons of pain
Going Outside: a non-VR non-game where I just give up and cry due to my sheer social ineptitude, questioning why I spent so much money just to deny myself Vitamin D.

i hate myself

Me and my buddy asked a guy how he got a pipboy on his arm and asked him if we can have it too he just kept ignoring the question and tried to change subjects after a while he left the world. So we tracked him down and duplicated the pipboy from his arm while he wasn't looking and saved it quickly so we can put it on our avatars. There aren't a lot of VR games where you can execute such great heists.

My friend who i play CS:GO with said if i post a review on this game and it gets 200 likes and 200 awards that he will buy me a RTX 3060 and 2 kilos of canned ham. So i'm just gonna leave this here. Help a brotha
