Wargame: Red Dragon is probably the best RTS game ever created. A testament to this is how large the playerbase and how there are still updates 10 years after release.

It cuts out all the bloat from the RTS genre: the base-building and resource gathering. Honestly, who has time for all that boomer sht? This game is pure action. Combat is incredibly fluid, more so than even Wargame's spiritual successor WARNO. I don't know exactly what words to string together to describe it. The units move exactly the way you think they will, and the battle effects are just enough to tell you what is going on without obscuring what is going on (something that bothers me about WARNO).

The deck system allows for many ways to approach a game. The many strategies it's possible to build for keeps me coming back year after year. The game looks good, and it runs incredibly well. You could play this game on your grandma's Chromebook. The UI is simple and easy to use, reminiscent of the Wargames movie. All of these things have become worse in Wargame's sequels, but Wargame has absolutely nailed them.

The only improvements that can be made to the game are quality of life features that make the game simpler to play, such as the Line of Sight tool found in later Eugen titles. But when you are hundreds of hours in, you will not be surprised by awkward lines of sight.

Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish.

Heads up multiplayer does not work on mac :(
