This game has so many failings as a narrative storytelling game. You split the story not just across multiple timelines, but also multiple dimensions. This makes keeping track of who is from where and even where we are at that point maddening.

Two other issues arise from the two timelines as well; the characters and plot do not get enough time to be fleshed out and become interesting since they have to share the screen time with a completely separate story and with some of the characters being alive in the future narrative, the sections where they are in "danger" lose any sense of tension since I know that they will live through this.

The action sequences of the game are little more than 'slowly point at the bad guy till he goes away'. While supermassive aren't known for their amazing game play, generally being little more than quick time events, at least games like Until Dawn required people to have quick reflexes, which paired with high pressure situations could result in people making mistakes. The action in this is boiled down to looking at the bad guy with a camera until he dies and doing that about 5-10 times. He is slow moving and comes in a straight line surrounded by fire which alerts you to the direction he is coming from. Failing this section requires you to actively seek failure to see what happens.

You'll also find the game has very little action in it, and generally telegraphs when it is coming. At no point was I scared or worried that something might happen. Once again comparing it to Until Dawn, while slow, you are constantly dealing with different "monsters" that you don't know the rules for with a few big twists to keep you on your toes. Frank Stone however has two sections where his arrival is announced. Which is during the ending of each timeline. Before that there is next to no tension since we know the bad guy is currently out of commission.

*SPOILERS FOR THE END OF THE GAME*
The ending also blows massive ass. There is no pay-off. The person the game is named after, Frank Stone shows up for all of 30 minutes. Kills one person (more if you pick the wrong arbitrary choice that is literally a coin flip on people living and dying). Then the game ends. You don't have a showdown with him, you don't defeat the big bad or even the crazy lady who summons him. You just go into the Fog, get given a large lore dump that raises more questions than answers and then it ends.

While the ending does connect directly to the lore of Dead by Daylight it does nothing for new or old fans of the lore. For new people the game just ends. They have no clue what is going on as the Fog doesn't get explained or how the Entity is involved besides the crazy lady trying to feed the world to it.
For old fans nothing new is introduced. No new revelation to the lore that changes how we look at things or how we interact with the narrative of the DbD universe.

TL;DR Story is all over the place, gameplay is slow and boring, even for a QTE game, and horror elements are non-existant.

This was a very interesting game to get into. I like the idea of having an interactive origin story showcasing how the Entity takes new survivors and killers into the fog. Although this game is choice driven, there's not too much variety in long-term choices that leave big impacts in the story earlier on. Everything feels sort of one-paced up until the later chapters. There's many different endings you can get in this game, but each one only has a few subtle changes.

To grasp how choice driven this game is; In my eyes, it's less choice driven than 'Heavy Rain', while having a more 'Telltale Games' style of choices. You pretty much get a definitive ending regardless of whatever choices you make throughout main story. I kind of wish there were more pathways and routes that could've been taken, but the game hold ups pretty well and offers a unique story that feels compelling while also being a little bit difficult to understand at times.

The game could've been much better, but it's not a bad game by any means, as I think it's just good. I pre-ordered the deluxe version when it went up on Steam, but it doesn't really change the gameplay much, besides having a few cosmetics in both this and Dead By Daylight itself, and having a small tracker for interactive elements that only works nearly half the time.

I recommend buying just the base version of this game when it goes on sale. I hope this review helps people out!

buggy even after several months of being released, u p much have to replay the whole game if u wish to 100% or see alternative ending. qte sound effect and when they appear on screen are massively delayed, just watch it on youtube

This is the biggest waste of time and money, the story made absolutely no sense with unlikable characters and even worse dialogue. The whole story was so rushed with consistent bugs and freezing cutscenes, the information that you would find on notes and/or crappy dialogue was already figured out with context clues. It has been 2 months and still no sign of fixing any major bugs, definitely a disappointment to story-rich decision based games.
