Can someone explain exactly what kind of creature the Time Judge is? Why is it called the Time Judge anyway?

I am somewhat familiar with retro shooters, having played Quake 1 + 2, Duke 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior, Doom 1 + 2 (ofc). It took me a bit to warm up to this one, but I like it in the end. I think it's neat. The problem is, now that I have played through it a couple of times, I don't know what to play next. Are there other lesser known retro FPS games that I should play? Any recommendations?...
