really enjoyed this one; it's like they 3d-ified a point & click game and the result is a mostly cohesive and engaging level-like experience. the plot is surprisingly dark with some absolutely crazy twists, and i found the ending to be nicely done as well. though it does feature a more rudimentary version of the "mind palace" from later games, it is mostly puzzle-based.

however, for those that enjoy deducing cases entirely by their own merits, this one is a bit disappointing--much of the build-up is based on the player having next to no idea what is actually going on. we're more akin to watson, left in the dark and generally just along for the ride. in fact, midway through the game, sherlock graciously infodumps everything about the story so far, and it's kind of funny how much is just pulled out of thin air.

but oh, the twists! the suspense! the shock! there is one moment in particular in which my jaw was literally dropped. it's a really fun time all around.
