Escape the Backrooms Part 4 is Out Now!

Wanderers, it’s time to return to the backrooms for a new expedition featuring 9 new levels, each bringing you to both new and familiar destinations in the backrooms.

Here are some glimpses of just a few of the new levels you can explore the next time you no-clip into the backrooms:

Improvements

Fixed some issues with the voice chat system
Made small balancing changes to previous levels and items (such as speed boost from items now being double the duration)
Fixed various gameplay bugs

There have also been a lot of changes done behind the scenes to gameplay systems to be able to start implementing better replayability, player progression, events, and more quality of life changes that will be coming soon.

Playing the game is desktop mode is highly recommended for the best experience as VR is still in the very early development stages and may not work as intended.

Christmas Event

Wanderers, if you feel like returning to the backrooms for Christmas, we've added 8 player lobbies for a limited time during the holiday season. It's not much as we've been hard at work on the next major content update, but holidays are always better with others so the more the merrier!

Changes:

Added the ability to create lobbies with 8 players.
Made parts of the poolrooms frozen.

Halloween Event

Wanderers, if you feel like returning to the backrooms for Halloween, we've added a few decorations around some of the levels. It's not much as we've been hard at work on the next major content update, but here's a sneak peek:

Changes:

Added a few Halloween decorations in some levels.
Added a toggle for event content in the settings.
Added arrows in the Level 0 liminal room exit and extended the hallway to make it more clear that it's the exit.

Fixed an issue where the error message would show when players were kicked.
Fixed an item dupe.
Added an option in the settings menu to toggle event content.
Added Japanese translations.
Added Korean translations.
Added Turkish translations.
Updated French, German, Spanish, and Russian translations to be more accurate.

Fixed an issue where the Animated King wouldn't move.
Fixed an issue where new players couldn't join lobbies after games were ended.
Made the multiplayer connection error messages more user-friendly.

Added an icon for the exit on the Level 9 map to make it less confusing to find.
Added a brightness slider.
Fixed scoreboard sometimes not being accurate.
Added error messages when failing to connect to servers.
Fixed an issue where players could fly around the pitfalls.
Made it so flashlights will always spawn in the middle garage level.
Added notes to help out players on some puzzles.
Added an option for disabling camera shake.

Fixed an issue where walkie talkie physics would affect players.
Fixed an issue where players would die if every player didn't no-clip at the same time.
Fixed an issue where the current equipped item wouldn't be in a player's hand when starting a level if they weren't the host.
Fixed an issue where the voice chat icon wouldn't show on the player's screen if they weren't the host.
Fixed a chair collision bug in the hotel lobby.
Fixed an electrical station level skip.
Improved VR movement and hand tracking (still buggy if you're not the host in multiplayer).
