I really wanted to like this game. I love musicals, I love greek mythology, I love urban fantasy. Somehow this game's storyline never really seemed to grip me. It took me a lot of months to get through the around six hours needed to get through the storyline.

Looking back I think the main issue I have with the game is the fact that it's all supposed to be about the songs, and I realise that the songs are difficult to produce and offer in a compelling way, but even on their own, in their different configurations on Spotify, none of them seem to grip me. The way that they were created allowed for twists and turns, but it also makes them seem disconnected. Even in the harmonies they don't gel together. And what is supposedly the big finale number feels.. eh..

Wicked this ain't.

There's a lot to like in this game. I like the story, the characters, and the voice actors are great. Even the art is ok (a little too comic book-ish for my liking, but not terrible), and I like that it's inclusive. But making this a "musical" means a good portion of the game needed to be devoted to songs, and the songs are terrible. There's no rhythm, no rhyming, no bridge. It's as if the characters are singing their rambling, messy thoughts which at best is awkward and at worst is total cringe. I actually roll my eyes and mute my computer when they break into song because it's uncomfortable to listen to.

Another issue is the character choices within the songs. I often don't understand in the moment what I am supposed to choose, or which choice will get me the outcome I'm looking for. There's a timer on these choices which you can turn off, but that doesn't change the fact that the outcome of the choice is difficult to anticipate. I can't tell if this is intentional, but this mechanic is part of the reason the songs suck so much. If your actions can change the way the song goes, then making it a good song is not as important as telling the story, hence the lack of rhyming or sense of any musical rhythm. But if the songs suck, then why make it a musical in the first place?

tldr; they made music bad and that's uncool.

The art style of this game is outstanding and the story and music is as well!! A game I think everyone should play!
