What’s going on, Maximum Football crew!

Luke here from the Maximum Football team, kicking off a new regular check-in series where we break down what we’re working on—and what you can look forward to in Maximum Football.

These check-ins are a way for us to pull back the curtain and bring you deeper into our development process. Maximum Football is a game being shaped by its community, and we want to keep that collaboration going strong.

Last week, we launched our first major patch of Season 2. We’ve received ample feedback from you – thank you for sharing your suggestions.

We saw some reports of users who encountered a bug where they got duplicate versions of their MPL cards.

We identified the source of this issue and pushed a hotfix for this bug this week.

We made a lot of adjustments to blocking in our most recent patch, and we’ve seen from the community that this has been a big improvement over the way the game played pre-patch. However, we are still seeing lingering issues especially on special teams that we want to address in our next update. Blocked punts and blocked FGs are still happening at too high a rate for our liking, and we want to continue to make changes to improve the effectiveness of special teams.

Our hotfix last week addressed a number of clock issues that players were encountering following the patch. However, we are still monitoring a few player reports of lingering clock issues. If you see any weird behavior from the clock, please drop it in the comments or in our #Feedback channel on Discord.

We recently announced that Maximum Football is coming to PlayStation 5 this summer—and our team is hard at work preparing for that launch. That means polishing core gameplay and introducing features that will debut with the 1.0 release.


Rain and snow are on the horizon! As mentioned in a previous mailbag, cosmetic weather will be added for 1.0. This will be a visual-only update to start, with gameplay-affecting weather planned for later this year.

Football is about the Jimmies and the Joes, but it is also about the X’s and the O’s. And we are hard at work on a new playcalling system that is going to add a new layer of realism to CPU coaching. This system is going to help address several areas that we’ve heard community feedback on including:

• Late game playcalling and awareness
  
• Run and pass balance
  
• Defensive playcalling

We have this system currently working on our development build, but before we release it out to the public, we have a very simple philosophy -- “is this better than the system that we currently have.” Until we can answer that with a resounding yes, we are going to continue to polish it.

Customization is a pillar of Maximum Football. We want to give players the tools they need to make the teams they want to make. The next addition we are making to that end is the ability to customize the color of the turf and the seats in your stadium. From various natural grass colors to vibrant artificial turf, you will soon be able to express your style in brand new ways in Maximum Football.

In the past, we have done monthly mailbags, giving you all the opportunity to submit your questions for the development team to answer. Now, we want to answer your questions more regularly, so we will be adding a Q&A as a part of these Dev Blogs!

Last week’s patch focused on stabilizing key areas of gameplay and introduced a long-requested feature from the community. Here’s what’s in the latest patch:

• Couch Multiplayer – Face off with friends on the same console and battle it out for bragging rights.
  
• Offensive Line Fixes – We’ve tackled several issues that made blocking feel underpowered. Both pass protection and run blocking should now feel more balanced and consistent.
  
• Offsides Penalties – The invisible wall at the line of scrimmage is gone. Jump the snap early? That’s an offsides.
  
• Hurry-Up Offense – Run a fast-paced offense with the new hurry-up functionality—perfect for two-minute drills or keeping defenses on their heels.
  
• Gameplay Sliders – We're introducing an experimental feature that lets you tweak gameplay to your liking. Sliders will be available in Exhibition and Exhibition Coach Mode only for now.

We’ve just released a hotfix that addresses two key issues reported by the community:

Hey everyone!
We’ve just released a new hotfix for Maximum Football that addresses several issues reported by our community across Discord and social media.

Here’s what’s been fixed:

• 🕒 Resolved multiple clock-related bugs where the game clock would stop or run unexpectedly.
  
• 🏈 Fixed a bug where calling a timeout before halftime could still let the half expire and incorrectly charge you a timeout at the start of the second half.
  
• 🌞 Re-enabled Day/Night selection in the pre-game options menu.
  
• 🎯 Fixed an issue where users could get stuck repeatedly pump-faking on pass attempts.

These updates were driven directly by your reports—so thank you to everyone who took the time to flag bugs and give feedback. We’re continuing to listen closely and will have more updates on the way soon.

Hey Maximum Football crew — what’s up?

We’re trying something new with the Monthly Mailbag. In the past, we’ve done these as videos, but the reality is: there’s a whole team of folks working behind the scenes on Maximum Football, and a blog gives us a better way to tap into their insights.

By shifting to this format, I can pull in answers from across the dev team and give you a fuller look at what’s happening under the hood. So with that—let’s dive into your questions.


We chose Unreal Engine 5 for two big reasons. First, it lets us hit next‑level graphics faster and more efficiently — real‑time global illumination, super‑realistic materials, and all the visual polish you expect from a modern title.

Second, UE5’s robust physics system powers the core of our gameplay. From the ball’s arc through the air to the trench battles at the line of scrimmage, every collision and movement is driven by real‑time physics calculations. That level of fidelity simply wouldn’t be possible in most other engines.


Animations are constantly being added to Maximum Football. Seriously. Every single update we release includes new animations and updated animations. Starting in February, our updates have addressed locomotion with a new sprint animation

We have another mocap session that’s planned for this summer where we will continue to capture new blocks, catches, tackles, running animations, and more!


This is still a work-in-progress for us, but we are making strides to not only improve the CPU’s late game situational awareness, but overhaul the CPU playcalling system altogether.

For now, you will see the CPU leveraging the new hurry up mechanic in late-game situations when it makes sense.

As for the remainder of the overhaul, our philosophy is simple, we will continue to polish it on our end while asking ourself “is this new system better than the system we have in the game now.” The moment we can answer that with a resounding yes, we will implement the new system into the game!


Absolutely—gang tackling is on our roadmap! We’re currently fine‑tuning our 1v1 tackle mechanics to get them just right, and once that’s locked in, we’ll shift our focus to adding realistic gang‑tackle dynamics. It won’t be in our 1.0 launch, but it’s definitely coming in a future update. Stay tuned!


We do plan to add left‑handed QBs. Beyond simply flipping our right‑handed throws, southpaws bring unique release angles and body mechanics that we want to nail down authentically. We’re currently evaluating whether we can mirror existing animations or if we need a dedicated mocap session for left‑handed throws. Either way, you’ll see true lefty signal‑callers in a future update.


Customization is a core pillar of what we are building with Maximum Football, and we want to continue to add ways for players to express their creativity on the field. So, here’s some of the stuff we have coming up soon.

Custom field colors: For Season 2, we introduced Seaside Park, which featured our first new colored turf. But soon, any field in Maximum Football will be able to sport a different colored turf, as well as different colored seats throughout your stadium.

Custom endzones and additional field logo customization are on the long term roadmap to give you even more options for customization.

Hello, Maximum Football community!

Today we’ve released a hotfix on Steam and Xbox to resolve an issue affecting Spectate mode. CPU vs. CPU matches can now be watched without interruption.

We’re also tracking a pump‑fake bug that causes quarterbacks to get stuck pump‑faking on every pass attempt. A second hotfix is being test for release as early as tomorrow to address this pump‑fake issue alongside several other user‑reported bugs, including:

• Requesting timeouts at the end of quarters
  
• Unintended clock behavior in specific game situations
  
• Day/night options not appearing

If you encounter the pump‑fake bug before tomorrow’s update, simply attempt another pump fake (hold LT + a receiver icon). This will reset the quarterback’s animation and allow normal passing.

Today, we are releasing the first patch of the season. Let’s dive into some of the biggest improvements coming your way:

Grab a friend and settle the score locally—you can now play head-to-head on the same system. Whether you're going head-to-head in a rivalry game or testing out team builds, Couch Multiplayer is finally live.

We heard your frustration loud and clear: the O-line was getting bullied. Defensive linemen were breaking through far too easily, wrecking the run game and collapsing the pocket in seconds.

This patch delivers improved offensive line play—giving you more time to survey the field and execute your gameplan. It’s a better balance between offense and defense, and a huge quality-of-life change that came directly from community feedback

The era of running at the line pre-snap without consequences is over. Jumping the snap will now result in an offsides penalty, especially cracking down on online players who were abusing the invisible wall to gain an unfair edge.

Clean up your timing—or be prepared to march backward.

Add some tempo to your attack! You can now run a no-huddle offense by holding Y after the play. Your squad will hustle to the line, giving you the chance to catch the defense off guard and keep drives alive.

Those are the biggest highlights—but we’ve packed this patch with a lot more. Keep reading for the full list of detailed patch notes below.

We are aware of an issue in this patch that is causing users to pump fake and lose the ability to pass. The team is working on a hot fix that will address this issue ASAP, and we will post an announcement when it is available.

There are a few other known issues present in this build that we will fix in a future update.

• some issues with the controller assignment for the 2nd user for couch play
  
• users may encounter an error when trying to access MPL; this gets fixed with a game restart
  
• there are some issues with registering the loss when disconnecting from an online ranked match

• Onside kicks now work reliably even if you call a timeout after setting kick power, and crash‑related uniform syncing when joining sessions has been fixed.
  
• Drill exercises (pass defense, hot routes, etc.) no longer get stuck after touchdown catches or when selecting plays.
  
• Recovered‑punt touchdowns now correctly award possession
  
• Star‑player indicator logic has been added.
  
• Penalties are now observed by the rules engine, and AI will decline unnecessary penalties when they cost more yards.
  
• “No‑Huddle” offenses and hurry‑up sequences no longer leave players in awkward formations or teleport defensive players.
  
• Client‑side join logic was fixed so switching into coach mode—and other lobby privileges—don’t reset unexpectedly.
  
• Exhibition‑mode stats challenges now track correctly (including two‑point conversions, missed kicks, and challenge progress), and match history statistics have been cleaned up.
  
• Conversion kicks that miss no longer trigger a touchback, and delay‑of‑game positioning on extra‑point tries is now accurate.

Last season, you took to the field aboard the iconic Aircraft Carrier Stadium. This time, we’re bringing the action to the sunny shores of the coastal Southeast. Get ready to suit up on the lime green turf of Seaside Park, a brand-new stadium surrounded by palm trees and coastal vibes.

But Season 2 isn’t just about a fresh backdrop and new cosmetics—we’ve also made meaningful changes based on your feedback. Progression is now faster, more flexible, and even more rewarding, making it easier to earn the content you want while playing the way you enjoy.

As always, the Season Pass includes both free and premium rewards at every tier, featuring card packs, cosmetics, celebrations, and in-game currency. And don’t worry—if you decide to upgrade to the premium pass later in the season, you’ll instantly unlock any premium rewards you would have earned thanks to your progression.


We’ve made some adjustments to the way progression works in Season 2 based on feedback from the community. This season, you’ll earn rewards more quickly and have greater flexibility when it comes to completing challenges across different game modes.

Let’s start with progression. In Season 1, we heard that some challenges felt a bit too specific or demanding, which made it harder for some players to stay on track. For Season 2, we’ve fine-tuned the difficulty of weekly and seasonal challenges to make them more approachable—so you can keep moving forward and unlocking rewards at a steady pace.

We’re also expanding how and where you can complete challenges. Now, your stats will count toward weekly and seasonal progress whether you’re playing online or offline MPL, Dynasty mode, or Exhibition Mode. However you choose to play, your progress will follow.


We’re adding more control to the defensive side of the ball in Season 2 with the introduction of defensive hot routes. You can now adjust individual defender assignments pre-snap, giving you the tools to counter what you’re seeing from the offense in real time. Whether you want to put a linebacker into a hook zone, assign a cornerback to man coverage, or send an extra rusher off the edge, defensive hot routes let you make smart, strategic adjustments on the fly—just like a real defensive coordinator.


Season 2 brings more customization to your Dynasty experience with the addition of alternate jerseys. You’ll now have the ability to create alternate uniforms at any point during your Dynasty and choose which look your team will take the field in before each game. Whether you're designing a bold new look for rivalry week or just switching things up for fun, alternate jerseys give you more ways to show off your team’s identity and make every matchup feel unique.


We’re also expanding the flexibility of how you play with an update to Coach Mode. Previously limited to offline play, Coach Mode is now available in online exhibition games—allowing you to take on your friends head-to-head while calling the shots from the sideline. Whether you're testing your play-calling skills or just prefer a more strategic, hands-off experience, you can now compete online in Coach Mode and prove who’s the better football mind.
