I'm giving this game a negative review despite having a fun time playing with friends simply because it's one of the worst single-player beat 'em up experiences I've ever had in my life. The game is flat-out easier in co-op in every aspect, and if you are attempting an arcade clear on the only difficulty higher than normal, instead of designing intensified encounters or increasing the number of enemies you need to deal with, the devs simply doubled or tripled the damage value of everything in the game. Taking 1/5th of your health in damage from a basic enemy simply because you were hit twice feels awful. Every single enemy goes from a fun encounter to a frustrating chore that will punish you intensely if you make even the slightest mistake.

The bosses are somehow even worse, featuring the most egregiously annoying hit-detection and superfluous i-frames you could possibly imagine. Even spamming your own dodge, every single boss in this game feels like a frustrating monotony that was not designed to be attacked by a single player--or, if it was, it hails back to the worst arcade era money grabbing BS ever, where bosses are designed to be unfair simply because the game hates you and intends for you to take as much damage as possible.

Every single time I have attempted an arcade clear of this game on gnarly I have quit out on the third level because of how egregious and miserable the sheer act of getting hit feels. You can be popped out of the air by a hitbox below you despite having jumped far above it on the Y axis, just because this game hates you. You can reflect or dodge a projectile every time, only to suddenly get hit by it for no reason you can discern, and then again, and again, until you are bleeding lives to one of the game's earliest stages and know it's only going to get worse from there.

I'm serious. The single-player experience in this game is a tragic mess. I legitimately hate it. Have fun buying this game if you only intend to play it in co-op, but if you actually want to play it by yourself, avoid at all costs unless you hate yourself. I would recommend having your balls run over by a garbage truck before playing this game in single player.

This game is so much fun to play! It really captures and enhances the look an feel of the original cartoon series, which is great nostalgia for old school fans.
The game is a dream to play. Good fighting mechanics, good pace and long enough to provide a strong challenge.
There is a story and arcade mode, and with the unlockable characters and side quests there is a ton of very easy and fun replayability to this game.
A MUST for any TMNT fans, new or old.
You don't really need to ready the reviews... Just play it.
