I spent a good chunk of time with CROSSBOW: Bloodnight, and while it started off strong, it eventually lost its grip. The game delivers on atmosphere and speed, but sadly, it runs out of depth fast.

✅ What I loved:
The dark gothic vibe and soundtrack create a solid first impression.

The crossbow is your only weapon, but it has three fire modes:

Hold RMB = rapid fire

Tap RMB = shotgun burst

Hold LMB = aim and fire a rocket-like explosive

The movement is slick — bunny hopping around while dodging enemies feels fun and skillful.

There are actually two arena maps, even though both start feeling similar after a while.

❌ What eventually turned me away:
The gameplay loop is extremely repetitive. You're just circling around the arena, wave after wave.

No progression, no unlocks, no sense of reward — just chasing high scores.

Only a handful of enemy types, reused over and over.

Once the initial thrill wears off, there's nothing left to keep you playing.

It starts to feel more like a reflex test than a full game.

🎯 My rating: 4/10 – Great idea, but too shallow. Worth a quick spin, but don’t expect to stay long.

This game makes you really appreciate just how well made Devil Daggers and Hyper Demon are. The sound design is terrible and you'll never know when and where things are spawning, or if they're charging up an attack, the amount of runs that were lost to 100 bats breathing down my neck that just weren't making any sounds was insane. Spawners will instantly pop up directly out of the ground instead of slowly moving into the map, which lead to so many deaths where I turn around for half a second and die to a spawner, sometimes even having the spawner spawn directly infront of me and not having enough time to react and course correct. The werewolves half the time will instantly dash as soon as they spawn instead of doing the usual charge up animation. The across the arena dash attack and AoEs you have to jump over shouldn't be in the game in the first place. The only reason I put more than 10 mins into the game was because I had 3/4 achivements and wanted to get the last. It's a shame because I love the aesthetic and really enjoy DD and HD.
