A beautiful and touching tribute to the author's grandfather and other ancestors. Using gorgeous animation and skillful storytelling, the author projects our 21st century minds into the experiences of his family members during the internment of Canadians of Japanese ancestry during WWII. It is a controversial topic for sure. Many people were wronged during this period and it was a long road to bring healing after the war. They were uprooted, relocated and held against their will during a time of national paranoia and terror.

In the decades since, we've realized what a bad decision internment programs were. We've tried to offer recompense to those affected as a way to help heal the wrongs that society inflicted. I believe the folks who endured this treatment deserve our empathy, our sympathy, and continued moral support.

I appreciated the author's effort to create a memorial to his grandfather and family. Rather than focus on the accomplishments, character, legacy of his grandfather, our author focused on a period of injustice and hardship he endured. That was his choice but I don't appreciate the concentration camp imagery to represent what his family endured. The author himself, during his narration, admits that it is imprecise if not simply inaccurate. An issue as controversial as this needs to be treated with the utmost candor so that we and future generations can accurately assess the matter. Embellishment is out of place here.

In the end, it is a beautiful work. In my opinion, this work was ultimately diminished by over-the-top narration and imagery. You be the judge but I have to stop just-short of an endorsement.

I couldn't finish it because even if you've played for 20 minutes, you can't pick up the experience where you left off. I'm sorry bro, I'll never know what happened to your grandfather.
