I recommend this game.

It's stable and plays well. The side quests don't really offer much in the way of meanigful side stories and serve more of a way to grind currency for ♥♥♥♥ upgrades.

Still worth the 20hrs of gameplay.

While somewhat fun and interesting at times it got pretty tedious for me after about 7 hours. When enemies just keep coming wave after wave with shields that cover themselves 360 degrees and with a never ending supply of mines, and an abundant quantity of healing, it's time to call it a day. Outside of that the story and voice acting are pretty mediocre.

Chorus is a space game about fighting space cultists and doing cool space moves in your cool space fighter.

You play as Nara, a scavenger with a dark past, and that dark past is genocide. Nara is helping out the Enclave, a sort of pocket group that is trying to avoid the Circle, a sort of space cult that wants to achieve “Chorus” by conquering all of humanity. Basically Jehova’s Witnesses but with a military arm. Also, Nara was like, the top guy at one point, like the SECOND IN COMMAND type deal.

When the Circle finally discovers the Enclave, its up to Nara to find her old cult-starfighter, a sentient ship named Forsaken or “Forsa” if you’re feeling cute, and do battle with the Circle across the galaxy to liberate humanity and also the Prophet, the leader of said cult, is kind of a ♥♥♥♥ so we should probably do something about him.

Developed by Fishlab games, a studio that’s mostly known for android games and the Xbox port for Valheim. Their first solo outing for a big AA title actually comes out swinging. I like Chorus a lot, not like GOTY a lot but I think its a good time.

Forsa’s weapons come in three flavors: Energy, Ballistic, and missiles. Each weapon has a role for a specific kind of enemy, with energy cutting through shields, ballistic taking out regular fodder, and missiles for heavily armored pricks. But if you really want to you can just blast whatever you’re shooting at with any of the three, you’ll just be busy if they have armor, which is presented by a yellow health bar instead of red.

Its a dogfight game with a cool drift mechanic, allowing you to just twist Forsa around mid-battle to keep shooting at the stinky ♥♥♥♥♥ that decided fighting the sentient god ship was a great idea. Weapons sound nice and punchy, and defeated enemies go out in a blaze of fire or spiral out into an explosion. You even get the mandatory “Oh, I made a mistake.” Radio message sometimes before they go meet ♥♥♥♥♥.

Its a third person space game, you control your ships trajectory with the WASD and the direction with your mouse. Shift lets you go faster and control is your “I need to go somewhere” button when you want to move the story along or do a side quest. You have a bit of leeway with your mouse, your weapons are sort of on joints so you can aim before you turn your ship.

Actually, you know what it reminds me of? You ever play “Freelancer”? A game from...Uh. 2004? I think? Maybe earlier. Yeah, it sort of plays like Freelancer, but the graphics are prettier.

That’s basically the game, you fly around a rather pretty set of open spaces, no pun intended, and do missions and side missions until the game ends. Its VERY pretty, though, Fishlabs did a good job making space both feel vast and unending but also full of stuff. It also helps that Chorus is actually kind of inspired as a science fiction setting, or at least it would be if there was more info on the world.

The game is set in a universe where a galaxy-wide super cult basically holds imperium over most of humanity. Its so dominant that the humans that DON’T live under Circle laws live in asteroid belts and space stations. Basically a human diaspora of people that don’t want to attend what is probably the lamest sermon in the galaxy.

Its actually really cool that every friendly you meet is basically a space born/ space bonded person, its sort of implied that younger people don’t even know what its like to set foot on an actual terrestrial planet.

People live on space stations, there are holographic advertisements for mining corporations, weapons manufacturers, furniture stores, what I think are TV shows. Travellers and space truckers use a type of space highway to move their ships around in a timely and fuel efficient manner, there’s an entire city later on that is supposed to house billions upon billions of people. There are pirates that have no problem putting down their shtick to help other people fight the Circle, that’s how bad things have gotten.

It sucks, I want to know more about this setting and these people, Nara and Forsa talk in a way where they’re both familiar with the universe and the setting as a whole, it doesn’t really let you into their daily lives. I want to peak around and see how people just go about, there isn’t even a codex or something for you to read to get a gist of how the galaxy works.

On the plus side, you get the full game out of the “Box”. No extra content, DLC, or extra missions that I know of, so once you finish the game, you got the whole experience.

Get Chorus if you want to play a fun space game, but don’t expect the next Mass Effect in terms of world building. Or, like, Freespace?

I had fun with it, I probably won’t go back to it any time soon, maybe if I’m hankering for cool space game with cool graphics. I kind of fell in love with Nara and Forsa for a bit, I like how they sort of bonded together and started finishing one another’s thoughts and sentences, I thought that was cool.
