Update 6/7/14 - Added the Zilant Missile Boat

Update 3/30/14 - Added the Aethon Battlecruiser Assault Variant - this variant replaces external ammunition containers with boarding craft, and also has 8 less missile launchers to make room for the docking areas. the boarding craft use landing gear to latch onto enemy hulls, and then fire their downward thrusters to burn through and create openings for the troops.

just short of Battleships, Battlecruisers are the staple of most fleets. They are typically around 9mil kg and up, and are a mixture of the Cruiser and Battleship classes. They are Cruisers in that they are faster than Battleships and have lighter armor, and they are Battleships in that they bring heavy firepower to bear upon the enemy.

The Raptor is one of the most successful designs by Phoenix Shipyards, and serves as the staple of our fleets. Where you find a Phoenix ship, there is probably a Raptor nearby. It is very well rounded between armor, weapons, and speed, and its design is well recognized in modern times.

The Aethon in every way was designed to be in the thick of battle. It has heavy armor on all sides, with about half of it concealed and surrounded by light armor, adding to the reinforcement. There are 31 weapons in all, so it is half the firepower of my Kestrel Battleship at 1/3 the weight. Compared to its fellow battlecruiser, the Raptor, the Aethon is slower and less manueverable, but has heavier armor and more weapons.

The Zilant Missile Boat was created to be a well rounded warship, capable of holding its own against larger ships. Although it has a nearly full coat of heavy armor, it is still capable of outrunning most ships of its class. It can received special modules to increase its firepower or ammuntion in various ways, or even allow it to receive experimental weaponry. As for its own firepower, it is loaded with missiles to blow apart enemy ships. To defend against any enemies trying the same tactic, it has a very generous amount of AMS systems to protect itself with, which also serve to give it a limited fighter defense.
